What is Elder Abuse & Neglect?

It’s when a vulnerable adult (someone who needs assistance such as the elderly, the disabled or mentally challenged) is caused harm or serious risk because of a knowing, intentional, or negligent act by a caregiver or any other person. Involuntary seclusion, intimidation, deprivation and humiliation also fall under the legal category of abuse. These actions are considered abusive even if the victim is not able to hear or comprehend the abuse. This abuse can come from family members, caregivers in the home, or in facilities. Any abuse is unacceptable, but  it is especially so for the ones who care for and raised us. We are not only sensitive to and dedicated to helping seniors as well as their families navigate through these difficult cases, but we are also skilled and experienced in obtaining the best results.

What will it cost you?

We do not charge any fees unless we win your case. We never settle your Elder Abuse/Neglect case without your authorization.

What are the types of Elder Abuse?

  • Physical abuse: slapping, hitting, beating, pushing and shoving or using physical restraints.

  • Sexual abuse: nonconsensual sexual contact of any kind

  • Emotional abuse: verbal or nonverbal acts that inflict anguish or pain, and include threats, insults, intimidation, harassment and even humiliation. It also includes isolation of an individual from their friends, family or from regular activities.

  • Neglect: the failure or refusal to fulfill someone’s obligations or duties to an elder. Neglect may also include failure to provide necessities such as water, clothing, food, shelter, personal hygiene, medicine, personal safety and other life essentials.

  • Abandonment: desertion of an elderly person by someone who has the responsibility, or assumed the responsibility to provide care.

  • Financial abuse: the illegal or even improper use of an elderly person’s property, funds or assets. This includes stealing or misusing money or possessions, cashing checks without the elderly person’s authorization, deceiving or coercing an elderly person into signing any document such as a will or contract, and forging their signature.
